My Writing Process… Revisions & Editing.
Hello! I get a lot of questions about writing and how I do it, so I thought I'd share my process. The writing process is like a rollercoaster. You never know what's coming next, but you're guaranteed a good time... or a headache, which leads me into my next step:
Revisions & editing: Ah, revisions & editing, so we meet again! This is the sculpting stage of book writing. Instead of marble, I’m working with words that went rogue in the first draft. I like to think of it as a grammatical face-lift. It can be a long, frustrating process, but it’s worth the time and effort to have a polished, tight story!
I use a software program called ProWritingAid. It does so much, it’s insane! I’ve also taken classes and read books on editing and grammar. Am I a superstar? No, but I’ve learned a lot over the years through the classes, books, and even ProWritingAid itself. I also have the luck of having a proofreader among my beat readers (we’ll go over them later). So, she helps point out things I’ve missed (even after I’ve read it through 3 times and listened to it 3 times).
No one is perfect though. I’ve found spelling or grammatical errors in books written by well-known, highly popular authors. Even the best of proofreaders or editors is bound to miss something, but getting the book as polished as humanly possible is always the main goal in this process.
Next week I’ll go into cover design and book formatting.
Until then, Happy Reading!
