My Writing Process… Writing!

Hello! I get a lot of questions about writing and how I do it, so I thought I'd share my process. Stop what you’re doing because it's time to learn the art of procrastination... Oops! I mean, writing!😜

Writing: And now it’s time! The real art begins! This is where the magic happens… or where a bunch of words strung together into an incoherent sentence happens. It all depends on how much coffee I’ve had that day. While writing the first draft, I try to remember a quote attributed to Ernest Hemingway: “The first draft of anything is shit.” Does that stop me from revising and editing along the way? No, but I try!

As for writing software, I use Word. I don't use other software or websites to write because I like Word.😁 Then I set aside a block of time each day to (figuratively) chain myself to the keyboard and WRITE! It's usually in hour increments. I set a timer for one hour, lock the door to keep out nosy husbands or needy dogs (not that they can open an unlocked door, but you get my point), and I sit and write until the timer goes off. Then I get up, move around a bit, get a drink of water (maybe something stronger if that hour was a b*tch. I'm kidding. Mostly.), and ten minutes later I settle in for another hour session.

It's the first draft, so that hour doesn't have to produce gold, it just has to make enough sense that I can polish it up during the next step: Revisions & Editing! I’ll go over that process in the next week!

Until then, Happy Reading!

Kimberly Quay

Kimberly Quay has loved romance & fantasy as far back as she can remember. Her childhood home was full of fantasy, romance, and thriller books and movies. Born and raised in Florida, she spent most of her youth outside searching for fairies and hoping to meet (and fall in love with) a vampire.

Author of (spicy) contemporary romance, (steamy) paranormal shifter romance, and (thrilling) urban fantasy, she’s a sucker for a good rom-com and she’s fascinated by old graveyards. When she’s not working on her next novel, she’s reading or kicking her husband’s butt in darts.

Kimberly still loves reading. Especially Nora Roberts and Kim Harrison.
